The Swiss Society of New York celebrated 75 years of the Lucerne Festival and paid tribute to Michael Haefliger - Artistic and Executive Director of the Lucerne Festival on Saturday, February 8, 2014. Since his appointment in 1993, Michael Haefliger has enhanced the Festival's distinguished reputation and has intensified its commitment to new music. In 2003 he co-founded both the Lucerne Festival Orchestra with Claudio Abbado and the Lucerne Festival Academy with Pierre Boulez.
312 guests joined the 2014 Swiss Ball at the spectacular Pierre Hotel, and enjoyed fine dining, entertainment, dancing and our silent auction. The Swiss Ball was held under the patronage of the Consulate General of Switzerland of New York. Find out more.
For 130 years, the Swiss Society of New York, Inc. continues to be a vibrant link in the Swiss-American community of the Greater New York area. The cornerstone of these activities is the annual Swiss Ball. It is recognized nationally and in Switzerland as one of the most important social events of our community.
But the Swiss Society is more than just the Swiss Ball. A yearlong program of educational events is meant to promote and inspire its members and participants. As a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, the Swiss Society of New York is committed to the advocacy and development of cultural exchange between Switzerland and the United States.
